We Bought A House

So, fiiiiinalllyyyyy, we bought a house! I’m so happy, because this marks the beginning of a new chapter in our lives in more ways than one. For the last 6 months, in addition to the various teams of lawyers I manage and liaise with on a professional level day-to-day, I’ve also been liaising with two sets of lawyers relating to two different areas of law on a personal level. It’s been a time-consuming journey but necessary to get things moving and enable us to buy our own home.

Teeny Tiny Apartment Living

Up until now we’ve been living in a flat that we outgrew quite some time ago. It’s been annoying sometimes whilst we try and store Poppy’s ever-growing collection of toys etc. minus the actual storage space. We’ve always seen it as cosy; I’ve become very creative at figuring out how to store things as a result. The flat itself was lovely, great location, with lovely neighbours who I will genuinely miss.

We originally decided to rent so that we could decide if we liked the area before we committed to buying here. We fell in love with it, made some really lovely friends and really started to see our family living here in the future. The area has really good schools, but house prices can be quite high because of that. We saved hard and kept our sights set on buying a house.

Buying Off-Plan

Just after Christmas, we decided to take the plunge and visit a new build development not far from where we live now. Before we knew it we were reserving the plot and preparing to buy a house! It was a total whirlwind that my husband and I kept just between us until all the legals were finished.

It was exciting! My husband and I would pinch ourselves at how things had played out. We had waited a long time for our house and it was about to be ours! It’s brand new and we got to choose where on the development it sat and all of the interiors, decisions, decisions!

The months after that were some of the most demanding of my life, I was simultaneously dealing with mortgage brokers, mortgage lenders, two sets of lawyers, property developers, sales progressors and interior designers. At the same time my husband was dealing with site managers and builders and then of course we were updating each other on our conversations – argh! It was more people than I’d care to speak to and more information than I’d care to retain. But it was so worth it.

The house is exactly what we wanted, a townhouse with enough space for us all to be comfortable. It’s in the catchment area of 3 outstanding state schools and well thought of independent schools. It’s further into the area we love and so obviously, I am extremely grateful and very happy!

We exchanged contracts in February and today have completed. This is cause for a celebration! We bought a house guys! We are homeowners! Yay!

We still have lots of decisions to make on the decor, like furniture etc. so be prepared for home decor inspiration posts and bits and bobs I find during the process! I’m loving Pinterest and Houzz for inspirtaion and you can follow my Home Decor Pinterest page here.

I haven’t decorated a whole house before, so if you have any suggestions of decor websites or stores I need to visit, I’d love it if you could leave them in the comments.

I hope you’ll be very happy for us as we embark on this new phase of our lives. It’s been a long time coming, but good things come to those who wait (and work hard!).
